Originally inhabited by Cherokee and Creek Indian tribes, Helen was turned into a logging town during the 1940’s, and fell into decline by the mid-60’s. Three guys had a vision, and turned it back into a classic Bavarian village that draws 2 million visitors to the Georgia mountains each year.
Come explore the natural beauty of the area, revel in the 7 week long Oktoberfest party each fall, be amazed at hot air balloons, or spend a lazy afternoon tubing down the Chattahoochee River that meanders through the heart of the town. If you’re feeling adventurous, ziplining or horseback riding creates the excitement you’re looking for, tons of local waterfalls, fishing, and hiking areas abound for those who want to immerse themselves in nature.
Our picturesque mountain region is the perfect climate for our local wineries, who harvest local grapes and turn them into unique offerings to be sampled at dozens of tasting rooms around the area.
